London's leading independent charitable hospital partners with Icon Cancer Centre to deliver a purpose-built cancer centre at its St John's Wood campus.
Icon Cancer Centre and St John & St Elizabeth Hospital have announced a strategic partnership to deliver a purpose-built cancer centre at the hospital's St John's Wood campus in Central London, expanding access to specialist cancer services within a trusted hospital setting.
The new centre will bring together advanced precision radiotherapy technology, specialist cancer expertise and coordinated care in one location, complementing the hospital's existing services and support networks.
For almost 170 years, St John & St Elizabeth Hospital has delivered patient-centred care to communities across London. The partnership builds on this legacy while supporting the hospital's continued development of complex care services.
Construction is expected to begin shortly, with the centre on track to welcome its first patients in 2027.
Integrated, cancer care in one location
Across the UK, one in two people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, and around half of all cancer patients are expected to require radiotherapy as part of their treatment.
Radiotherapy can involve daily treatment over several weeks, meaning proximity, continuity and access can play an important role in the patient experience.
The new centre is designed to expand availability of integrated cancer care onsite, supporting more timely and convenient access to care.
Equipped with a full suite of precision radiotherapy technologies, the centre will be among a small number of sites in the UK to offer this level of advanced, integrated treatment capability.
Responding to growing demand for cancer treatment
Icon Oncology Group CEO, Mark Middleton OAM, said the partnership reflects the Group’s long-term commitment to increasing access to cancer care for patients across the UK.
“Demand for cancer services continues to grow across the UK, and meeting that need requires thoughtful, long-term partnerships,” Mr Middleton said.
Working alongside St John & St Elizabeth Hospital allows us to bring together clinical expertise and advanced radiotherapy technology with a shared focus on patient-centred care, helping to build additional capacity in a way that supports patients, clinicians and the wider healthcare system.
CEO of St John & St Elizabeth Hospital, Mr Simon James, said the partnership marks an important next chapter for the hospital and the communities it serves.
“We are proud to partner with Icon Cancer Centre to deliver this new purpose-built cancer care centre at St John’s Wood,” Mr James said.
The partnership strengthens our cancer services and supports a more integrated treatment experience, bringing diagnostics, treatment and ongoing care together in one trusted hospital setting. It reflects our commitment to expanding high-quality specialist services while keeping patients at the heart of everything we do.
Further details relating to clinical capability and technology specifications will be shared as planning and construction progress.
