Biography
Dr Muireann Kelleher is a medical oncologist who specialises in medical treatment for breast cancer including chemotherapy, hormone therapy and biological therapy, known as SACT -systemic anti-cancer therapy. Dr Kelleher graduated from the National University of Ireland in 1997, and her core medical training was in Cork University Hospital and St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin. Dr Kelleher completed her specialist oncology training in The Royal Marsden and Guys and St Thomas Hospitals, London. Dr Kelleher was awarded a PhD by King’s College London in 2009 for her proteomics work in the Ng Laboratory. Dr Kelleher’s research used novel biophysics to interrogate protein-protein interactions in primary breast cancer tissue, to better predict which cancers relapse or metastasize. In 2010 Dr Kelleher was appointed as a consultant medical oncologist in St George’s University Hospital. Dr Kelleher has served as the Clinical Director for Cancer at St George’s since 2020. Since 2022 Dr Kelleher also chairs the Royal Marsden Partners SACT Steering group who are focussed on maintaining and expanding chemotherapy expertise and equity of access to SACT across London.
Dr Kelleher treats patients with breast cancer here at Icon Cancer Centre London in Wimbledon, a world-class integrated cancer centre and at Nuffield Parkside. Dr Kelleher Chairs the Parkside-Icon Cancer Centre London Breast Multi-Disciplinary Team, ensuring that all patients have a full and rounded discussion with every required specialist and expert before starting a breast cancer treatment plan. In her own oncology practice, Dr Kelleher creates a bespoke cancer treatment plan with each patient, guided by best oncology evidence and that person’s needs, wishes, and concerns. Dr Kelleher is keen to incorporate health and wellbeing into every consultation and is open to and willing to learn from her patients and from her peers. Dr Kelleher is a keen, though cautious cyclist and a long-time supporter of Crystal Palace Football Club.
