Icon Cancer Centre London has officially marked a major milestone in UK cancer care, showcasing its new Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator (linac), at a special technology showcase and ribbon cutting event in Wimbledon last week.
While the state-of-the-art linac has been supporting patients for several weeks, the 21 January 2026 event provided the first formal opportunity to recognise what this technology represents for patients, clinicians and the wider community.
A landmark investment in precision radiotherapy
The ribbon was officially cut by Deputy Mayor of Merton, Councillor Shuile Syeda, alongside Icon Europe CEO Aldo Rolfo, in front of Icon staff, clinical leaders, community representatives and partners including Nuffield Health, Varian and Pharmaxo Group.

Aldo Rolfo, Icon Europe CEO, said, “This milestone reflects Icon’s commitment to shaping the future of cancer care through innovation. By investing in world-class technology and clinical expertise, we are ensuring patients in London have access to the most advanced, personalised radiotherapy available today and into the future.”
As the first centre in the UK to house the full suite of Varian and Radformation radiotherapy technologies, Icon Cancer Centre London is setting a new benchmark in precision-led, highly personalised cancer treatment. The integrated technology enables advanced image-guided and adaptive radiotherapy, supporting clinicians to tailor treatment with exceptional accuracy for each individual patient.
Transforming cancer care across tumour streams

Councillor Shuile Syeda, Deputy Mayor of Merton remarked that is was an honour to mark this important milestone for healthcare in the region.
The event also celebrated the strong collaboration between Icon, its clinical teams and technology partners, whose combined expertise has enabled the centre to deliver a national first in advanced radiotherapy capability.
Aldo Rolfo said the milestone reflects Icon’s long-term vision for future-ready healthcare. “This is not just about new equipment – it’s about empowering our clinicians with the very best tools available, so patients can receive world-class cancer care, close to home.”
