Biography
Dr Mary O’Brien was born in Northern Ireland, and she studied medicine at Trinity College Dublin. She works as a Medical Oncologist at The Royal Marsden in Sutton, Surrey, and until October 2003, also worked at the Kent Oncology Centre in Maidstone.
Dr O’Brien now only treats lung cancer including mesothelioma. She has held various committee positions and has over 240 peer reviewed papers of original and collaborative research. She has been professor of practice at Imperial College London for over 6 years until recently.
For lung cancer she is interested in all aspects of treatment development through clinical trials. She is also interested in the supportive treatment of cancer patients including the use of acupuncture for breathlessness and more recent has completed a trial of acupuncture for Long Covid.
